BEYOND
THE CLASSROOM WINDOW
ACTION ACTIVITY: Travel The World
Research
indicates that the bond that exists
between the student and the teacher is directly
proportional to the students’ willingness to absorb information presented. Understanding this concept, the learning
strategy called “Beyond The
Classroom Window” utilizes action activities
designed to promote, enhance or reinforce this bond. Proper preparation and application of this
strategy creates an atmosphere of “family.” Discipline problems are replaced with a
desire for learning adventure.

Equipment
required for this activity:
You
will need to decide on an item to send around the world. We recommend you develop something light and
small, thus making it easy for the carrier.
Our class decided on a district flag.
Special Note: Coulterville
sends its flag around the world and at the same time learns from the
travels. Recruiting the assistance of
those traveling to different locations around the world; the students of
Coulterville Jr. High request a photograph of their flag at different
locations. Once received, they
investigate the area and learn everything they can about it. This may include multiple subject areas
(e.g., population, environment, government, etc.). Information accumulated over many years will
bring the world closer to your students.

Example: Coulterville Eagles Flag flying at the South Pole. (Scientist working at the
pole).
