ACTION ACTIVITY:             Astronomy – Solar Observations

 

Research indicates that the bond that exists

between the student and the teacher is directly proportional to the students’ willingness to absorb information presented.  Understanding this concept, the learning strategy called “Beyond The Classroom Window” utilizes action activities designed to promote, enhance or reinforce this bond.  Proper preparation and application of this strategy creates an atmosphere of “family.”  Discipline problems are replaced with a desire for learning adventure.

Equipment required for this activity:                               You will need to obtain a solar observation

 telescope designed for direct or indirect

 observation.  Two types exist:

1.                          Indirect observation – instrument projects the image of the sun onto a platform, allowing students the opportunity to draw or photographs it’s surface.

2.                          Direct viewing includes a telescope with special lenses designed to eliminate harmful rays.  BE SURE you do not use a regular telescope for this purpose.
