BEYOND THE CLASSROOM WINDOW

ACTION ACTIVITY:             Environmental – Quetico Canoe Trip

Research indicates that the bond that exists

between the student and the teacher is directly proportional to the students’ willingness to absorb information presented.  Understanding this concept, the learning strategy called “Beyond The Classroom Window” utilizes action activities designed to promote, enhance or reinforce this bond.  Proper preparation and application of this strategy creates an atmosphere of “family.”  Discipline problems are replaced with a desire for learning adventure.

Recommended Grades:  High School

Special Note:                This two-week adventure deals mainly with life skills.  Participants are required to put in a full days work, prepare their own meals and clean up their own area.  It teaches teamwork and responsibility far beyond any classroom instruction.  Children change during this trip.  They “grow up.”  We have participated in the adventure for many years and have sent many children to Quetico.  What we bring back is someone far different.  We bring back a Voyageur.  A piece of this adventure will remain in the heart of your child for the remainder of their lives.
